To support Matters of Race, an innovative public television series and outreach project that challenges its audiences to reconsider the constructs of race, its role in our democracy and its relationship to power and social justice in America. Using community stories as well as personal accounts, autobiographies, interviews and letters, the series will explore the complex demands of our rapidly changing multiracial and multicultural society. The Health Program is supporting Episode 1, which explores how race and cultural sensitivity can impact whether or not a patient can gain access to appropriate care. Matters of Race is divided into four 60-minute programs. NCF support will be used for educational and professional development outreach for the Matters of Race series. This grant will support the staff; the production of and captioning for DVD training modules; travel and expenses, workshops and in-school screenings, the development of teacher training materials that include classroom curriculum for 16,000 teachers, focus groups and convenings with producers using the films in schools.
