Social Justice Creativity

To support Social Justice Creativity, an initiative that assists individual artists addressing social justice issues through their creative practice, by providing services to help artists organize as a community; creating opportunities for skills development; and promoting funded projects within the arts world as well as to issue-based constituencies. Creative Capital supports social justice projects that achieve the following: 1) examine history through a social justice lens; 2) challenge race/gender assumptions; 3) explore contemporary power systems; 4) negotiate diversity; and 5) engage with the environment. Creative Capital provides the following services to its artists: assisting artists in the development of project plans; engaging artists in a strategic planning process so that they can develop specific skills; organizing artists retreats so that artists can engage in collective problem solving and community-building; and engaging the public by developing strategies for promoting the work.
