To support Lumiere Productions' six episode documentary series, To Tell the Truth. The series will trace the history of documentary film from the invention of cinema to the 1970's by exploring a diverse group of artists' struggles to use film to better understand the times; and to effect policy and social change. To Tell the Truth will be broadcast nationally and will reach 6 million viewers in its initial run; it will then be distributed to educational and home audiences. To Tell the Truth will be purchased by American Studies, Film Studies, Journalism, Media Production and History departments for use in classrooms; curricula will be developed and DVD's of several classic documentary films will be released in conjunction with the series and will be in circulation for the first time.
