Columbia College
To support Chicago Center for Arts Policy - Democratic Vistas Profiles, a series of essays that will define the relationship between art, democracy and social justice. The series will consist of profiles written by or about individuals involved in art supporting social change. Three types of practitioners will submit essays: 1) the public intellectual who articulates political and social commitments and critiques through an artistic product; 2) the artists/organizers who use art to build communities through a collaborative process; and 3) artists and cultural commentators who challenge arts organizations to more fully realize democratic ideals and to create spaces that encourage opportunity, access and equity. The Center for Arts Policy will conduct research, select a diverse group of individuals to profile, select a team of writers whose previous work demonstrates their ability to cover this work effectively and publish and disseminate the profiles in a variety of medium to universities, artists, arts organizations, funders and policymakers. This grant also satisfies: Arts and Culture Program: Objective II, Strategy 1 & 3 |
