Center for Art and Public Life: CCA Students in the Community

To support the Center for Art and Public Life: CCA Students in the Community, an initiative that engages students, faculty and community members in a process where they develop models for integrating reciprocal, community-based learning into formal education for artists, architects, and designers. One of the primary goals of California College of the Arts is to demonstrate that successful art practice can take many forms in the studio and in the community. CCA's community outreach efforts focus on public schools, social service agencies and arts and community organizations. Last year, NCF supported the Center's placement of Community Student Fellows and Faculty with partnering institutions to develop programs that used and refined protocols and procedures developed by the Center for Art and Public Life. In 2002-2003, students at the Center will be developing arts based curriculum at partner sites, increasing their knowledge of practices for community engagement; and using the arts to increase community participants' visual, communications and collaboration skills.
