To support the Youth Arts and Culture Program (YACP), an initiative that promotes and disseminates artistic and cultural productions that have a national impact on the criminal justice system reform movement by focusing on the fiscal trade-off between education and incarceration. The Ella Baker Center (EBC) is an internationally-recognized community-based organization that challenges human rights abuses in the United States criminal justice system. EBC is committed to supporting youth leadership development projects in key communities that are most affected by the problems of institutional racism and poverty. In 2002-2003, EBC duplicated the "Books Not Bars" film for screening throughout California; duplicated the FIERCE video for screening throughout New York City; distributed its videos free-of-cost to more than 100 organizations; created Zine (an online magazine) with art and poetry; produced three new youth-directed public service announcements, toured youth centers, group homes, two juvenile detention facilities, community centers and colleges; and participated in round-table discussions with local grassroots organizations. In 2004 YACP will screen and disseminate their films, disseminate three new videos and public service announcements, lead youth workshops, update its Zine, conduct new tours which will include screenings, structured dialogues, Hip-Hop and spoken word performances, special appearances, roundtable discussions, as well as bi-monthly youth concerts and dances that are coordinated by education teams.
