New Growth Initiative/Apollo Project	Program Contribution Environment Program, $175,000 Interprogram Initiatives for Social and Economic Justice, $50,000

To support the New Growth Initiative/Apollo Project to remove barriers between environmentalists and labor over economic growth. The initiative will develop new growth strategies for investments in technological innovation to achieve environmentally sustainable prosperity. It will deepen support within the labor movement and build the alliances necessary to advance those strategies. This long-term approach will be augmented by the work the Institute for America's Future will do over the next 18 months with partners in the Apollo Alliance – the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS), the Common Assets Defense Fund (CADF) and Americans for Energy Freedom (AEF) – to create broad constituencies in favor of an "Apollo Project" of public investment in energy efficiency and a clean energy infrastructure. The New Growth Initiative/Apollo Project will conduct and disseminate research on the economic growth and job creation benefits of Apollo. It will also develop a national policy agenda, strengthen coalitions for policy action, and build grassroots support amongst labor and community organizations.
