New Growth Initiative/Apollo Project

Presidential Authority Grant

To support the Institute for America’s Future (IAF), a research, analysis and policy organization, as it works in partnership with the Common Assets Defense Fund (CADF) and the Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS) in preparation for the summer 2003 launch of the Apollo Project, a public education initiative designed to create a broad constituency for public investment in environmentally sustainable development and good jobs. The project will focus on the multiple benefits of a national clean energy investment program, including the creation of high wage jobs through the reinvigoration of the U.S. industrial sector, increased national and global security by reducing reliance on middle-east oil and authentic solutions to the environmental, social and economic threat posed by climate change. Among the lead partners in the project, IAF is focusing on ensuring broad-based labor support by conducting research and analysis, advancing specific policy proposals, and negotiating with key labor leaders. In preparation for the launch, IAF proposes to undertake a detailed analysis of the job creation benefits of sustainable energy transition policies by industry sector, to work with CADF on public opinion research to help frame that analysis for a broad public audience and to conduct a conference of allies and potential allies to test concepts, frames and messages and to build support for the project.
