Interprogram Initiatives for Social and Economic Justice, $100,000

To support the California Partnership for Working Families (CPWF), a statewide initiative formed by an alliance among the Center on Policy Initiatives (CPI), the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy (EBASE), the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE), and Working Partnerships, USA (WP). These organizations, located around the state, will work to bring economic and environmental justice organizations together to craft common agendas with environmental groups. These four organizations have established themselves as community and statewide leaders in challenging corporate and government institutions to ensure accountable economic development. The initiative is designed to create strong community coalitions capable of demanding a voice in the development process in individual regions; to build research capacity at the regional level to provide the data needed to impact the development process; develop partnerships with developers and public agencies to secure community benefits plans for development projects; and improve job quality through public economic development policies that require living wages, job security and health benefits while preserving and enhancing environmental quality.
