Program Contribution
Environment Program, $50,000
Interprogram Initiatives for Social and Economic Justice, $50,000

To support the Lighthouse Project: An Innovative Outreach Initiative to enhance communications and outreach that will significantly expand the Center for a New American Dream’s base of support while increasing the organization’s influence on cultural norms, corporate practices, and public policy. The Center is the only national organization addressing problems of over-consumption, providing Americans with information about making alternative choices as consumers, organizing large institutional purchasing cooperatives to encourage everything from fleet purchases of low-emission hybrid cars to recycled paper products, and seeking to renew an American ethic of simplicity and conservation. The Center will incorporate public opinion research, earned and paid media, online outreach and grassroots programs to increase its core audience (currently 25,000 consumer activists) and its web audience (currently 1.5 million annual individual visitors). In addition, the grant will provide support for the Center to brand a new look and logo, with improved programs for engagement of conscious consumers and public and private institutions.
