Honor the Earth

To support Honor the Earth, a project of the Tides Center, to mobilize Native American and non-Native grassroots forces to hold corporations accountable for the environmental damage caused by their business practices, and to leverage new policies and opportunities for the production and use of renewable energy. Honor the Earth's Energy and Environmental Justice Project will work with tribal communities to provide education, technical assistance and innovative financing mechanisms for solar and wind energy development. The project also brings together a diverse set of allies to leverage support and public investment for large-scale tribal wind energy projects in the Upper Midwest and Great Plains states where reservations can potentially generate enough electricity to meet half the nation's energy needs. The organization will work to create clean energy demonstration projects and is preparing shareholder resolutions and negotiating with national energy corporations to secure policies that recognize the rights of indigenous people and commit to purchasing tribal wind energy.
