Getting to Universal Health Care in Maine: Time for Action

To support the project, Getting to Universal Health Care in Maine: Time for Action, an initiative to assure that consumer-oriented principles guide the development and implementation of new programs that will expand access to quality health care to all residents of Maine. The Governor of Maine has made a commitment to institute programs that will extend health care coverage to all state residents by the end of 2003. Consumers for Affordable Health Care Foundation (CAHCF) will develop and promote consumer-oriented principles that should under gird the new health care programs CAHC will reduce complicated health proposals to understandable terms so that consumers and their allies can effectively participate in public debates. It will organize and train individuals and communities to participate in decision-making forums and it will coordinate a network of organizations and businesses around the ways they can support those principles. The project will be assessed based on the degree to which the new health plan embodies the consumer-oriented principles at the point that the new health programs are implemented.
