La Union Del Pueblo Entero
To support The California Project: Community Organizing in Farm Worker Communities to build broad-based support for efforts aimed at improving the health and well being of the more than 400,000 farm workers in California, their families and the rural communities in which they live. The California Project will accomplish this goal by organizing community action committees in forty rural communities statewide in order to address farm workers' and their families need for health benefits and a living wage, occupational safety and health, and protection from pesticide drift and water contamination. In addition to grassroots organizing and leadership development, coalition building, and mobilization activities, LUPE will conduct the research necessary to build a policy agenda and engage in policy advocacy. To accomplish its policy agenda, The California Project will work in collaboration with its sister farm worker organizations, such as the United Farm Workers of America and Radio Campesina, and with other California-based organizations that share a common agenda around health care for the uninsured, the occupational safety and health of low-wage workers, and the need to protect air and water from contaminants. This grant also satisfies: Health Program: Objective I, Strategy 1, and Objective II, Strategies 1& 2Environment Program: Objective II, Strategy 1 Interprogram Initiatives for Social and Economic Justice: Objective I & II |
