Health Activist Court Watch Project	Program Contribution Health Program, $100,000 Interprogram Initiatives for Social and Economic Justice, $50,000

To support the Health Activist Court Watch Project to preserve government accountability for implementing health programs, particularly Medicaid, in the best interests of recipients. The project will accomplish this goal by providing expert policy and legal assistance to local and state-based advocates, national and state-based organizations and policy makers working to assure access to quality health care for low-income families and individuals. The project will focus on cases in which government advocates challenge individual rights to hold state and federal governments accountable for adhering to federal and constitutional law. Also, it will focus on policy analysis of federal and state efforts to diminish government responsibility by handing states unprecedented and, in many instances, unwarranted flexibility to eliminate needy population groups and essential services from the Medicaid program.
