Tax Policy Analysis and Communications Project

Program Contribution
Health Program, $75,000
Interprogram Initiatives for Social and Economic Justice, $25,000

To support the Tax Policy Analysis and Communications Project to facilitate an ongoing, educated debate about the role of taxes in advancing a social and economic justice agenda — directly through an equitable tax system, and indirectly, through funding for vital services such as health care. The project's current objective is to educate the public and policy makers about the implications of a series of new tax cuts proposed by President Bush. It will do so in a number of ways. NWLC will co-chair Fair Taxes for All (FTFA), the coalition of over 500 organizations coordinating a national response opposing large tax cuts; and NWLC will co-chair FTFA's communications task force. The project will provide support to FTFA's field task force and state advocacy efforts, analyzing the impact of emerging proposals, especially on the ability of female heads of household to meet the basic human needs required for a healthy life. The results of these analyses will be communicated to advocates, policy makers, and the public.
