To support the Solidarity Works project to protect the occupational safety and health of and to assure social and economic justice for immigrant workers, especially those in the meatpacking industry in Nebraska and Iowa. Solidarity Works will accomplish this goal in two ways. The project will provide the information and training needed by immigrant workers to develop the leadership and critical thinking skills necessary to build new and strengthen existing labor organizations capable of promoting and enforcing safe working conditions. The project will build a bridge between immigrant and other low-to middle-income people in Nebraska and in Iowa through the use of the arts and by providing information and training about the economy and the impact of increasing income inequality on the health and well being of all. This exchange of information and ideas about the economy will result in broad-based community support for safe working conditions for immigrant workers and the development and implementation of an economic policy agenda for each state over the next two to three years.
