American Jewish World Service, Inc.
To support the Alumni Involvement and Networking Program, an initiative to develop opportunities for volunteers returning to the U.S. from international assignments to learn more about social and economic issues, community organizing, and leadership through involvement in domestic social action projects combined with Jewish learning. The volunteers participated in either the spring alternative break program with Hillel, the summer-long International Jewish College Corps program, the Jewish Volunteer Corps, and/or delegations from synagogues or communities. In 2003 alone, there will be 250 to 300 alumni, and each succeeding year that number will grow. The program aims to channel the energy, excitement and knowledge of returning volunteers into service and study programs by developing a vibrant alumni network. The network will contribute to the program's future funding base and connect participants with educational and service opportunities in their local communities. It will transform the volunteer experience from a one-time event into an on-going effort to promote social justice and global citizenship within both the Jewish community and American society. |
