Presidential Authority Grant
To support the Mussar Kallah, a one-day program of text study, experimental practice, engaged inquiry and learning for scholars, rabbis and students interested in the Jewish tradition of Mussar. Mussar is an ancient discipline of contemplative practice, study and exercises intended to cultivate ethical behavior and self-realization. The Mussar Kallah will be the first time that such a group has gathered to work on reinterpreting this centuries old tradition of spiritual wisdom for the contemporary world. The Kallah will be taped, and the tapes distributed, and the proceeds will be edited into a book. The proceedings and tapes will also be available on the Internet. This work contemporizes Mussar practice and helps Jews live more ethically and compassionately.
