Project on Dying and the Inner Life

The goal of the Project on Dying and the Inner Life (PDIF) is to improve care at the end of life by gaining a deeper understanding of the dying and caregiving processes. PDIF will investigate the inner life experiences of those involved with dying--people with terminal illness, their family and other informal caregivers and health professional--through in-depth interviews and qualitative analysis. The data gathered will be used to examine the relationship of the inner life experience to the experience of suffering associated with dying or caregiving for the dy ing and the ways in which such suffering may be lessened. The outcome of the anlaysis will be used to enhance the responsiveness of health care providers to the needs of dying patients and their informal caregivers.
